This is a companion volume to Meditations in John. As that wonderful Gospel sets forth the glories of Christ as the Son of God and thus begins with His eternal existence, insisting on His eternal deity, so this Gospel presents Him as the Son of Man so begins with the account of His wondrous Incarnation. It is the story of how the Son of God became the Son of Man, that the sons of men might become the sons of God.
As the book meditations in John, this volume is not in the form of a commentary, but presents the fruit of years of meditation on this lovely record of our Savior’s altogether human, yet altogether divine personality and ways. Here in Luke, God comes very close to us, and brings us very near to Him. This book is truly a mine of wealth, baffling the utmost efforts of the most determined prospector to discover, to any extent, the rich veins of precious truths embedded in its simple, yet profound language. If the reader gets half as much joy and wonder out of the perusal of this book as the writer got out of its creation, the author will be well satisfied. May the Holy Spirit bless it abundantly, for His glory and the spiritual blessing and uplift of the reader.
His grasp of the Scriptures was unusual. Fearing the permanent loss of his eyesight, he memorized all of the New Testament and large portions of the Old Testament. Later, through diligent care, his eyesight was restored, for more years of service to the Lord.
Mr. Van Ryn traveled extensively throughout his lifetime laboring for the Lord. May these precious portions from his study of the Word enlighten you as well. For more of his precious works, check out Meditations in Matthew, Meditations in Mark, Meditations in John, and Meditations in Acts.

I call her my Resplendent Bride because I have eyes and ears and for a time she even let me hold her hand.
Yet although her time among us was cut short by cancer, I still feel the afterglow of her resplendence. We were married less than three years. I buried my heart and my wedding ring in St. Louis.
We walked through the shadowlands hand-in-hand until she drew her final breath. She suffered gracefully in a world that does not know what to do with pain.
The Christian faith has always been about death and resurrection, for those twin truths were the reason the Lord Jesus sojourned among us. We have forgotten the old way—we have forgotten how to suffer and die well.
Danielle was my Resplendent Bride, and the church is Christ’s. I invite you to walk through this broken house so that you may know our small part in the divine love story.
As King David said in Psalm 27:13, “. . . I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!” and if not, I know the resurrection fast approaches.
Come, won’t you sit amongst the graves with me, and dream of Resurrection Day?
