The doctrine of the deity of Lord Jesus Christ is the keystone of our Christian faith. Without this great truth all else is compromised. Christianity is not simply a religion, a philosophy, an ethical code or a creed—it is Christ!
Despite attempts to separate the “Jesus of history” from the “Jesus of Christian faith,” the incontrovertible evidence of the unique, well-authenticated documents of Scripture is that the Eternal Word became flesh and lived among men on planet Earth (cf John1:14;1 Tim. 3:16).
The only way to deny the truth of our Lord’s deity is to discredit the Biblical documents upon which it is based. “A man need not be a believer to admit that in asserting Christ’s deity we make a fair translation of the Gospel story in the language of abstract thought” (Liddon, ibid p 162).
It is no exaggeration to say that the doctrine of the deity of Christ impinges on every aspect of Christian theology. Without this great truth, Christ’s saving sacrifice has no significance; sin has no remedy; mankind is lost; out hope of eternal life vanishes and to quote the Apostle Paul, “we are to be pitied more than all men” (1 Cor. 15: 19).
Our prayer is that the following pages’ for all the inadequacies will stimulate the reader to further careful research into more comprehensive, evangelical treatises on Christology. At best, we trust that some will be pointed toward saving faith in our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who, with the father and the Holy Spirit, is worthy of our worship!
John has written numerous articles and books including:Safe and Secure, Blessed Trinity, Angels, Living Churches, The Holy Spirit: Lord and Life—Giver, The Family: God’s Handiwork, For Every Cause? Now that he’s a grandfather, he’s writing books for children, too!

I call her my Resplendent Bride because I have eyes and ears and for a time she even let me hold her hand.
Yet although her time among us was cut short by cancer, I still feel the afterglow of her resplendence. We were married less than three years. I buried my heart and my wedding ring in St. Louis.
We walked through the shadowlands hand-in-hand until she drew her final breath. She suffered gracefully in a world that does not know what to do with pain.
The Christian faith has always been about death and resurrection, for those twin truths were the reason the Lord Jesus sojourned among us. We have forgotten the old way—we have forgotten how to suffer and die well.
Danielle was my Resplendent Bride, and the church is Christ’s. I invite you to walk through this broken house so that you may know our small part in the divine love story.
As King David said in Psalm 27:13, “. . . I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!” and if not, I know the resurrection fast approaches.
Come, won’t you sit amongst the graves with me, and dream of Resurrection Day?
